Find out why my creativity is sometimes low.

I consider myself a perfectionist. Because of this, I've been plagued with the ability to NOT finish certain personal projects. To combat this I decided to start the #80stoon campaign which was inspired by Jake Parker and his "Design 100 Somethings" video.
As if afflicted by a bout of Alzheimer's, I always seem to forget the awesome feeling that comes when I finish something I start. This time, though, I was determined to consciously pursue that feeling.
A Learning Experience
One of the reasons why I decided on 80's cartoons was because I was passionate about them. I love cartoons, but nothing brought on the full power of nostalgia like those awesome 80's cartoons I used to watch as a kid. I couldn't draw all of them, there were just far too many. I did encounter some times were I was so busy that the last thing I wanted to do was look at my computer, but kept going. That passion, not only for drawing, but drawing something I loved, was what led me to that finish line.
No One's Perfect
Ha! I've always tried to get my stuff looking perfect before I put it out there. Turns out, I was never putting anything out there because of it. This campaign re-enforced the fact that perfection did not matter. There were many times when things didn't look quite as I intended them, and no matter how many sketches I did, I was not feeling any of them. Still, I had to make an executive decision and post something even if it looked like poop to me. It takes a lot of inner strength to be able to do this after you've conditioned yourself to get things as perfect as possible.
I'm Not Mental, Just Committed
Once I started this campaign, I had to commit to it. This meant, that if I had promised to draw one 80's toon every day for 100 days, that's exactly what I was going to do. My rules were set. My time, scheduled. Having a couple of other talented artists on board helped me stay focused as well. This also meant that I had to regrettably decline any other projects and even personal events in order to make sure I fulfilled and met my own deadlines.
I want to thank everyone who followed, and a who participated in this little campaign. It was loads of fun and I am looking forward to doing some more of these in the future. Check out Jake Parker's video below.
Are we there yet?
We are almost at the finish line. I want to thank everyone who has stuck around with us. We've had some great results from this campaign. Unfortunately, I was not able to jump on the #inktober campaign this year. Hopefully next year.
If you want to check out the campaign and all the artists who have participated, click the button below. Remember if you want to join in as we reach our goal of 100 80stoons, you still can by adding the #80stoon to your post.
Thank you all for supporting this campaign and see you at 100.
Bionic Six - Drawing 80's Cartoons
Today I'm up to #11 of our 80's toons, finishing up some of the Bionic Six cartoons. 89 more to go. They were one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons. I remember I used to have a ring and slam it to my watch that was on my wrist and yell "Bionics on!" Kind of like they did in the show. Who am I kidding, I still do it, but come on...if you grew up with this show you would know that this show was awesome. The animation was ridiculous for its time and the plot was sick. Sadly, it was all created to sell toys and once sales died, so did the show, but I so wish they would do a remake like they did with Voltron.
Head on over to my instagram account and see as my friends and I go back in time and draw 100 cartoons from the 80s.
