Ghosting the old Ghosts Logo

May 24, 2018

After reading Angel & Demons by Dan Brown (YES, I read books), I came up with this brilliant idea to create the logo for Ghosts as an ambigram. If you don’t know what that means, An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation. Here are some examples of those.

The above says "Illuminati" both right side up and upside down.

So I did that. And I was like “oh wow! This looks cool. I even threw in some cool bevels and effects. I was happy with it because I achieved the intended effect. I could read it could read it both right side up, and upside down. It took me a few days to come up with it, trying to decipher how to do it, then actually doing it. I had to use the “O” as a pivot. I was satisfied with the result.

I can't read

After showing it to a bunch of people I realized I was the only one who could read it. I had to tell most people what it said before they were able to read it. Why the hell did I decide that? I wanted the title to match the story in the sense that there was a kind of cryptic mystery behind it and this served the purpose. Unfortunately, in the end, it was poorly executed because not everyone could read it.

20 years later

Returning to work on this book has been awesome. I have a new found vigor to work on it thanks to one of my loyal followers who took a liking to one of the characters. With this new beginning, I felt I had to revisit the logo. This time I went with a little more digital feel to it. The Matrix was a big influence on me so I took some cues from the visuals of their logo. Here are some of the samples I have been working on as well as some variations of the old ones. As this story continues, you will see the one I chose.

Until next time, draw what you want.
